American porn actor Ron Jeremy, accused of multiple rapes, has been declared unfit to stand trial because of severe dementia. A judge in Los Angeles has decided this after a psychiatric examination of the 69-year-old.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles law firm told AFP on Wednesday that another hearing is scheduled for February 7. It needs to be decided what will happen to Jeremy. This may include accommodation in a hospital.
Known for his signature mustache, Jeremy has starred in over 1,700 adult films since the 1970s and has been charged with 12 counts of rape and other sex crimes. The allegations date back to 1996, the alleged victims were between the ages of 15 and 51. Jeremy denies the allegations.
Own lawyer no longer recognized
The psychiatric reports were drawn up after Jeremy’s lawyer, Stuart Goldfarb, said in March 2022 that his client did not recognize him when he visited prison. “He couldn’t define who I am,” says Goldfarb.
