Heavy snowfall again caused chaos in Carinthia on Thursday night: about 2,000 households were disconnected from the power grid. There were several accidents, for example in the early hours of the morning when a truck accident resulted in a total blockage on the A2. In a short period of time, a total of three truck accidents took place.
A 51-year-old Spanish truck driver broke through the guardrail on the A2 just before the Südrast towards Vienna at Stossauer Hügel with his semi-trailer at around 3:28 a.m. because of the slipperiness. The vehicle then fell about 30 meters over an embankment on the lower municipal road. “The driver complained of back pain, which is why he was taken by ambulance to the LKH Villach, his passenger was unharmed,” reported fire chief ABI Michael Miggitsch from FF Arnoldstein.
A private company recovered the truck that was on its roof. On the way back, the men of the Arnoldstein fire brigade had to pull an accident and the truck skidded back onto the roadway on the B111 near the Gailitz substation.
State chemist alerted
A short time later another truck accident also occurred near Südrast. A semi-trailer crashed into the guardrail through the slippery road surface and tore open the diesel tank. Since most of the fuel had escaped when the Gödersdorf fire brigade arrived, the state chemist had to be informed, who ordered the contaminated snow to be removed. The operation lasted three hours, fortunately the truck driver was not injured.
fallen trees
There were two other traffic accidents in St. Urban and Schiefling am See. Due to the winter driving conditions, vehicles had disappeared from the roadway. In the districts of Klagenfurt-Land and Völkermarkt and in Krumpendorf, the fire brigade had to turn out because of fallen trees.
Power off again
About 2,000 households in the municipalities of Hüttenberg, Klein St. Paul, Velden and Wernberg, in the Loibltal and around Lake Gösselsdorf are affected by the power outage. The Kärnten Netz mechanics are working on the repair.
Snow accidents also in Salzburg
Due to the snowfall, there was also a serious traffic accident in Salzburg Flachgau early Thursday morning. Four people were injured. Actually, the group had planned a trip.
