The National Federation of Transport Associations of Spain, Fenadismer, denounced on Saturday that the new tolls for trucks that will operate in Gipuzkoa from Monday are a “brutal and disproportionate increase” of the amount for driving through this area.
Gipuzkoa will begin charging trucks coming through the N-1 and the A-15 through a new system intended to comply with the law, after the two previous approved regulations were annulled by the Supreme Court of the Basque Country.
Fenadismer explained in a statement that the new system will increase toll miles, which they go from 20 to almost 80 (49 from the N-1 and 28 from the A-15).
The check will be carried out, this association writes seven porches and 108 banners installed along the entire route.
Fenadismer assures that some carriers will be affected by the new standard up to 1500 euros per month to cross Gipuzkoa, which “in practice will force many small carriers exit the activity because of the impossibility of assuming the said confiscation burden”.
The carriers believe that the new amounts (0.28 euros per kilometer for trucks with a higher tonnage and 0.22 euros for trucks with a lower tonnage) place the toll in Gipuzkoa “one of the highest in Europe”over countries such as Germany or Belgium, which have specific tolls for heavy vehicles.
Fenadismer rejects the “collection of gluttony” of the Provincial Council and claims that the road transport sector contributes sufficiently to the maintenance of communication routes in the territory through taxes.
Fenadismer has reminded that it continues waiting for the ruling of the Supreme Court of the Basque Country to the appeal that this association has lodged against the toll regulation that will come into force on Monday.
