In private residence – More classified documents found with Biden

Date:

While searching for government documents, investigators came across other classified documents in the private quarters of US President Joe Biden. The U.S. Justice Department has seized six documents with confidential characteristics from Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden’s attorney Bob Bauer said Saturday. Some of it came from Biden’s time as vice president, some from his time as a senator.

The almost 13-hour house search had already taken place on Friday and included “all work, living and storage areas” in the home. The White House is trying to limit the damage after massive criticism of its information policy. Because confidential documents have repeatedly appeared in Biden’s private rooms — in Delaware and Washington — in recent weeks. The public only found out about some of the finds when the media reported them. Attorney General Merrick Garland hired special counsel to investigate the incidents.

President wants to cooperate “full and complete”.
Biden’s attorney now emphasized that detectives had “unrestricted access” to the home during Friday’s search. All kinds of documents such as handwritten notes, binders, binders, memorabilia, to-do lists and schedules, some dating back decades, were made available. Biden himself made it clear on Thursday that he was “fully cooperating” with the Justice Department. “I think you’ll see there’s nothing there,” he said when asked by reporters at a rendezvous in California.

The revelations are extremely politically sensitive for the president – as he is not allowed to privately store confidential government documents after leaving office. In the US, the National Archives are responsible for this.

The first tranche of confidential government documents was discovered on November 2 – shortly before the US congressional elections. The White House emphasizes that Biden’s lawyers immediately informed the National Archives. However, the public did not find out until January when the broadcaster CBS reported on it. In response to the initial discovery, Biden’s associates then looked elsewhere.

Trump also hid classified documents
The discovery of documents is also highly explosive for Biden because former Republican President Donald Trump sparked a scandal over the summer with a similar case: Trump kept large amounts of confidential government documents at his private Florida estate after leaving the White House. The FBI searched the property in August and seized several classified documents. Biden criticized Trump’s handling of the documents at the time.

Biden also wants to run again if presidential election in 2024
In Trump’s case, Garland also brought in an independent special investigator for the politically sensitive investigation — especially since Trump announced a renewed candidacy for president and criticized the investigation against him as politically motivated. Biden has also repeatedly expressed his general intention to run again in the 2024 presidential election. He has not yet made a final decision public.

Trump responded cheerfully on Saturday. On his online platform “Truth Social,” he wrote to Biden and his team, “You yourselves created this document chaos by targeting me so badly — and I did nothing wrong.”
