Two days after two robberies of tobacco shops in Vienna-Donaustadt, these have already been clarified: the alleged robber, a 20-year-old, turned himself in to a police check and admitted the robbery. He cited debts and the purchase of drugs as motives, police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger reported on Sunday.
Because he lived in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene in the Donaustadt Aspern district and was aware of the investigation, he became too hot and went to the police. He went to the raids on Friday morning. Shortly before 10 a.m., the dark-clad and unmasked young man walked into the first shop and threatened the tobacconist with a silver pistol that looked deceptively real.
Theft with toy gun
According to the 20-year-old, it was a toy gun that he had stolen. She has not been found. He didn’t succeed the first time: the woman ran screaming into an office. The robber also fled because there were two other customers in the store.
While detectives were still investigating the first shop, the young man struck a second time at another tobacco shop in Aspern. This time he robbed money and escaped unnoticed. Based on the description of the perpetrator, it soon became clear that it was the same fugitive perpetrator.
In custody after questioning
He had already spent the stolen money when he turned himself in. He was transferred to a prison after questioning by order of the public prosecutor’s office.
