Selenskyj takes action – bribes for generators: deputy minister fired

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has to deal with internal problems in addition to the enemy troops from Russia. Recently, several suspected cases of corruption in his government apparatus have surfaced. Among other things, the deputy minister for the development of municipalities, territories and infrastructure had to resign.

According to media reports, Wassyl Losynskyj received a bribe of US$400,000 (approximately €368,000) for the purchase of generators to deal with the country’s energy crisis. Research is also currently being done into the overpriced purchase of food for soldiers.

On Sunday evening, Zelenskyi promised more decisive action against misconduct in the state apparatus. “Society will receive all the information and the state will take the necessary strong steps,” the head of state emphasized every evening in his video message to the people.

Zelenskyi announced decisions for the coming week that have already been made but not yet published to further crack down on corruption and enrichment in office. “I am grateful to the journalists who cover the facts and create the whole picture,” he said of the revelations.

Enriched with subsidies?
Corruption is in the Ukraine As in many countries of the former Soviet Union, this is a widespread problem, and it is therefore feared time and time again that aid money from the West will seep through obscure channels. Many citizens believe that the country’s leadership enriches itself with financial aid in the course of humanitarian aid.
