Bad news for air passengers: German trade union Verdi has announced a day-long strike at the capital’s BER airport for Wednesday. Ground handling services, the airport company and aviation security were affected, it said on Monday.
“The strike will take place all day at the start of the early shift and will end late at night,” Verdi said. The reason is failed collective bargaining talks. “Passengers should expect serious flight delays and cancellations,” said Verdi.
300 flights affected by strikes
The airport company, on the other hand, assumes that no regular passenger aircraft can take place. Reports say some 300 takeoffs and landings are scheduled for Wednesday.
Verdi is demanding 500 euros more per month for the employees of the ground handling services and the airport company with a term of the collective labor agreement of twelve months. According to Verdi, employers mainly demand longer contract terms from both the ground handling services and the airport company.
