Large-scale rescue, fire and police operations on Monday in Feldbach in Eastern Styria: Shortly after hearing the Raab’s distress call, a farm worker saw an elderly man fighting for his life in the water. The 29-year-old managed to pull the victim out of the river, but all help came too late for him. The identity of the deceased could not be clarified by his wife until much later.
Around 1.30 pm an employee (29) of an agricultural company was busy with forklift activities on the factory site near the banks of the Raab. Suddenly he heard a cry for help from the water.
He immediately saw a person paddling helplessly in the river, after which the 29-year-old ran across a bridge to the other side of the river about 200 meters away. There he pulled the man who was calling for help out of the water and immediately administered first aid together with passers-by.
Identity unclear at this time
Alerted Red Cross troops and a team of emergency doctors continued resuscitation measures. However, the emergency services had to call it off about 30 minutes later without success. An emergency physician was ultimately only able to determine the death of the man.
Police officers from Feldbach then took over the investigation. Because the man had no papers with him, it was difficult to determine the man’s identity.
