A 53-year-old found a buzzard lying in the snow in pain in the municipality of Weißensee. Police are now investigating animal cruelty.
“The bird was badly injured and was lying in the snow,” officials say. The buzzard, it is a female, was found by a 53-year-old holidaymaker in the municipality of Weißensee.
The man handed over the bird to an employee of Vogelhilfe Carinthia. “The X-ray showed that the animal had been hit by a projectile from an air rifle.”
The bird was treated by a vet for symptoms of poisoning. “We are investigating animal abuse,” police said. The animal is now housed in the care station of the Adlerarena Burg Landskron and, according to the nurse, “not yet over the mountain.” The investigators conclude, “It’s an illegal shooting!”
