The Cultural Capital Linz09 had twice as much budget as the Salzkammergut 2024 with 60 million euros. This meant that 220 projects were carried out at the time. Today – 15 years later – people mainly remember new buildings. Or is there more? The “Krone” asked around.
There was disagreement at first: when Martin Heller and Ulrich Fuchs were announced as the creators of Linz09, the local scene first tried to curry favor. As projects were rejected one after another, a certain culture of debate developed, which even culminated in a play by Kurt Palm: the satire ‘The Dwarf Calls’, which premiered at the Phönix Theater, not only made fun of with the director, but also of the city’s new self-image.
