A house in Vienna-Penzing is in shock. Harald M. died after a shootout with the police. Now everyone is wondering: why?
Countless volleys of shots fired from a rifle echoed through the corridors of a tidy multi-party building in the Penzinger Kienmayergasse on Saturday afternoon. Once again Harald M. (60) went crazy. This time, however, he paid with his life.
The next day, a mixture of sadness, anger and horror reigns in the house. “He was sick,” they say. “We could have helped him,” says one of the neighbors. “He was a neglected alcoholic,” say the others. The same should also apply to his life partner.
Neighbor threatened to kill
The neighbor who threatened M. with a gun out of the blue on Saturday provides information. “I’ll kill you,” he would have shouted. “I saw through the peephole that he had a gun,” the shocked Saadi (name changed) told the “Krone”. And further: “My mother and I barricaded ourselves in a room”.
Meanwhile, WEGA and Cobra ventured out and attempted to negotiate with the enraged man in a hail of bullets. As already known, unfortunately without success. Harald M. was killed in his apartment by a projectile from a police officer after he himself had fired dozens of shots in the direction of the officers.
“You should have helped him,” another neighbor yells. Because, she says, M. also had its good sides. If he wasn’t just attached to the bottle…
