Abdulkarim Haj Yasin always has his mobile phone to hand: a speech recognition app helps him translate more complex German sentences, and saved videos show how he worked as a developer of automation and robotics in his home country of Syria. Above all, the smartphone is the bridge to his family, who still live in the country at war: his wife Lama and his sons Odai (4 years) and Diyaa (7 months). The latter was born when Abdulkarim reached Austria: in June 2022.
