The west exit in Vienna will be renovated and closed from summer. Traffic will be diverted through the west entrance, which will temporarily become a two-way lane.
The 1.4 kilometer long connection, which was designed as a suspension bridge, is in need of renovation. It was built in 1967. The main works should start in July. The affected area runs out of the city from the Hütteldorfer Bridge.
Suspension for one year
The ban is expected to last about a year. There are already restrictions for cyclists. The cycle path at the river Wien will close for about a month and will be widened so that construction vehicles can also use the area later.
Issue of cost still open
Further details will be explained at a press conference in March, as a spokeswoman for Transport Councilor Uli Sima (SPÖ) announced. Nothing was known about the costs at the moment. According to bureau Sima, the road surface, the sealing, the edge beams or the road crossings must be renewed. Concrete repairs are being carried out on the supporting structures.
