Who is to blame for the death of an 81-year-old in Bad Gastein? This question is not only hotly debated in and around the Pongau community. She also employs the Salzburg police and prosecutor’s office.
Handrails were missing, Gastein fell into the depths
What happened? On January 23, an 81-year-old woman fell from the balcony of her apartment in Badbruck, a neighborhood in Gastein. The parapet was missing at this time. A locksmith company from the Gasteinertal had dismantled it. Commissioned by property manager Gswb, the company replaced the balcony railings.
However: “Contrary to agreement, the handrails were removed two weeks early,” says a spokesman for the Gswb. According to the police, the company had removed the balcony door handles for safety reasons. In three apartments, however, the technicians stood in front of closed doors.
Two locksmiths charged with manslaughter
There they were satisfied with an A4 sheet that they glued to the outside of the window. A tip that the elderly pensioner apparently did not take note of. Despite intensive medical treatment, the woman died a week after the accident at the Schwarzach Clinic.
An autopsy revealed that an infection was the cause of death. The police are now filing charges of negligent homicide against two team leaders of the metalworking shop in question (29, 31). The gentleman’s employer did not comment on the incident when asked by “Krone”.
