Another case of poultry influenza (H5N1) was found in a duck farm in the Braunau district of Upper Austria. The company kept about 3,000 ducks, several of which have already died. The rest are killed by official order.
A three-kilometer radius protection zone will be established around the affected farm, where all poultry farms will be monitored by the official veterinarian, state veterinary director Thomas Hain said.
In Upper Austria, bird flu has already been detected this year in private households in the districts of Braunau and Linz-Land, as well as on a farm in the district of Wels-Land. Hain stressed that bird flu poses no danger to humans and is not transmitted through food.
