Winter is still firmly under control in Obersteiermark: in addition to many roadblocks, lift drivers now had to pull the emergency brake. All cable cars on the Planai, the Hochwurzen, the Reiteralm and the Dachstein are currently suspended.
“It makes no sense, the risk is too great. Heavy snow has now joined the storm.” Planai director Georg Bliem therefore had to pull the emergency brake, all cable cars are currently at a standstill – such as on the Hochwurzen, the Reiteralm and the Dachstein. Wind peaks of up to 125 km/h were measured on the mountains. Only on the Hauser Kaibling are currently some elevators in operation.
Bliem is quite skeptical about the large-scale start-up of the cable cars: “I don’t believe in miracles.” From noon the weather gets better.
UPDATE:
The lifts in Rohrmoos and on the Hochwurzen should be operational again from 10:30 am. From noon it is hoped to be able to start again on the Planai.
But it is not only in the Ennstal that the storm throws a spanner in the works for the lift operators: it is also not possible to ski on Saturdays on the Präbichl.
Many roads are also closed due to avalanche danger, such as the Planneralmstraße. In the afternoon they hope to make it possible for holidaymakers to arrive and depart. The Sölkpassstraße (L704) will also be closed from Saturday afternoon.
The following Styrian roads are also closed:
- L725 Rössing-Landesstraße between Ennstalstraße and Ramsauer Landesstraße
- Wildalpen, connecting road with Hinterwildalpen
- B24 Hochschwabstrasse, between Postplatzl and Kirchplatz
- L117, between Steinhaus am Semmering and Rettenegg
