In Basel, a ballet teacher is said to have humiliated her students. Former students accuse the director of a ballet school of forcing her to dance despite her injuries and severely humiliating her in proportion to her body weight. This led to eating disorders.
A schoolgirl reported in Swiss newspapers that despite an injured foot she was forced to dance on pointe shoes. In addition, eating disorders would have resulted from humiliations related to the students’ body weight. A spokesperson for the Basel Education Department confirmed the corresponding reports on Wednesday. The department was made aware of the allegations and attempted to talk to the ballet school. However, no solution was found.
The cooperation with the school has ended
The Basel Dance Academy, against which the allegations are directed, had collaborated with a school through the sports department. Although the head of the ballet school rejected the allegations through a lawyer, the collaboration has since ended.
The Basel Dance Academy is already the second dance school in Basel to face such accusations. The ballet school Theater Basel closed the professional section at the end of November after corresponding allegations and financial difficulties.
