Terrible winter sports accident on Wednesday in the Tyrolean Zillertal: A 36-year-old ski tourer wanted to stop on a stone wall above a road after a descent, lost his balance and fell several meters onto the asphalt. The local resident lost consciousness and had to be flown to hospital by helicopter.
The 36-year-old went on a ski tour to the Speikspitze with a friend. After he drove back to the valley first, the local resident wanted to stop immediately on a stone wall next to the road, according to the police.
Mountain rescuers happen to be nearby
“The man lost his balance and fell about three and a half meters over the wall onto the asphalt road. He remained immobile and was immediately treated by members of the Zell am Ziller mountain rescue team who happened to be there,” the police said.
The 36-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his back and face. After first aid at the scene of the accident, he was flown by ambulance helicopter to the Schwaz district hospital.
