A carelessly discarded e-cigarette led to an apartment fire in Dornbirn-Hatlerdorf in Vorarlberg on Thursday morning. A 49-year-old simply tossed the still-hot cigarette into a garbage bag and placed it on a shelf in the front room.
Shortly after 07:00, the rescue and fire service center (RFL) was notified of a fire in a multi-family house on Dornbirner Hatlerstrasse. When police arrived on the scene, heavy smoke was billowing from one of the apartments.

It turned out that the 49-year-old resident of the apartment had mistakenly disposed of his e-cigarette in a garbage bag, which eventually ignited in the front room.
The Dornbirn fire brigade was sent to Hatlerstrasse with five vehicles and 45 men, the Red Cross was on the scene with two vehicles and three men and the police with five patrols and nine people.
