Terrible tragedy Thursday in Gries am Brenner in Tyrol: a 91-year-old resident died in a fire in his home. The daughter had raised the alarm after noticing smoke when she returned from work.
When the 59-year-old came home from work in the evening, thick smoke was already hitting her at the front door. The woman then immediately alerted the fire brigade. After the troops arrived, they discovered in the furnace area a glowing wooden box. “Immediately afterwards they found the 91-year-old father lying lifeless on the floor in the living room,” the police said.
All help came too late
The rescue team, which was also informed, eventually immediately started resuscitation measures. However, this was to no avail, for the elderly man all help came too late.
Presumed tragic accident
According to the current state of the investigation, “it can be assumed that the smoldering fire was preceded by an attempt-to-ignition accident,” the investigators said. The wooden box in front of the stove, which was filled with firewood, is said to have caught fire.
“An autopsy has been ordered, third party negligence can be ruled out according to current knowledge,” it said in conclusion.
