On Friday, climate activists again got stuck in Linz and briefly blocked a lane on Waldeggestrasse. A young member of the “Last Generation” told the “Krone” how she prepared and how it feels when the police take their taped hands off the asphalt.
“I lived in Waldeggstrasse for a while. The noise was unbearable and the air was so bad that I was constantly sick. Only since I moved has my health improved.
No one should be forced to breathe car exhaust – we need less, not more traffic on our roads” – Jelena Saf (24), web developer from Linz and member of the “Last Generation” had glued herself to the road with three colleagues Friday morning.
Police officers were prepared
The young woman had prepared to sit on the cold asphalt with long underwear, tights and jeans and two pairs of woolen socks, wrapped heating pads around her hand, then applied four tubes of superglue to her left hand.
The police officers prepared, doused the activist’s hand with a solvent and then pulled a thread of the type used for pottery between the skin and the road. Saf: “That really hurt.”
“Absolutely no understanding”
Mayor Klaus Luger, on the other hand, describes such environmental protection actions as counterproductive: “I have absolutely no sympathy for these kinds of protests. You are doing the important concern of comprehensive climate protection an absolute disservice.”
