Public transport in Tyrol is becoming considerably more expensive. The Tyrolean Transport Association (VVT) will increase public transport ticket prices by an average of 8.12 percent as of April 1. The reason for this was persistently high inflation in combination with increased energy and wage costs.
After 2022, public transport prices would be adjusted again for the first time. Last year, the annual price adjustment on April 1 was waived and the state of Tyrol decided to offer a ten percent discount on annual tickets as an anti-inflation measure, the transport association referred to last year’s relief. Now the “price adjustment” is necessary again.
However, all VVT climate tickets contain a bonus of five percent and with the ‘PlusEins bonus’ for households with two full-paying persons, the second Tyrol climate ticket will cost 40 percent less in the future, those responsible emphasize.
The prices for school and lesson cards remain the same
In addition, the state continues to support families in precarious financial situations with the “Social School Ticket Tyrol”. The price for school and lesson cards will not be adjusted and has remained the same at 99.80 euros for students and pupils since 2020. “Although a price adjustment is necessary this year due to increased costs, I am happy that we can once again offer a benefit to everyone who chooses an annual pass,” said State Council for Transport René Zumtobel (SPÖ). In particular, the bonus for households that drive a lot is a ‘top offer’: ‘The motto here is a second ticket instead of a second car.’
At the same time, the overall benefits of public transport in the state were highlighted. Based on population, Tyrol has the densest public transport offering in all of Austria, with approximately 67 million kilometers per year.
