Selenskyj distributed weapon wish lists in Brussels with secret information

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is trying to get as much international support as possible given the situation in his country. Apart from the arms deliveries already promised, he handed over detailed lists of urgently needed weapons to the heads of state and government during the EU summit in Brussels, a senior EU official said on Friday. These should also be peppered with intelligence information.

According to the information, the wishes are aligned with the respective stocks of the Member States. This should increase the pressure on individual states to provide more for defense in the war against Russia. Ukrainians know better than heads of state what goes on in the camps, the EU official added. “It’s pretty smart what the Ukrainians are doing. (…) They know exactly what they need and they know what to ask for.”

When asked where the Ukrainians got the information from, the official said: “They have been informed, they have contacts.” Given their intelligence skills, it’s no wonder they can defend themselves against Russia.

Nehammer also received a list
German government circles said in Berlin on Friday that the German delegation had not received a list from Selenskyj. For example, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas confirmed the reception. It is conceivable that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron were not given a list because they had already exchanged views with Zelenskyj in Paris on Tuesday evening.

As for the discussion about the delivery of fighter jets, the EU official said it was something that could be seen. Slovakia is one of the countries investigating this. The government hopes for support from the EU pot, which is already being used to finance arms deliveries to Ukraine. The topic is currently being discussed in smaller groups.

Fighter jets for Ukraine? Scholz evades
Scholz had previously dodged the issue of possible movement on the fighter jet supply issue during a press conference on Friday evening. “It wasn’t a topic of conversation here,” he said. French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out deliveries of fighter jets in principle.

However, this would “certainly not be possible in the coming weeks”. Selenskyj had also advertised fighter jet deliveries in Brussels. So far, Scholz has been against it.
