Vehicle changed – anti-war Ovshannikova describes her escape

The TV journalist Marina Ovsyannikova gave the first insight into her escape from Russia. With the help of the organization Reporters Without Borders, she was smuggled out of the country shortly before the start of a trial in October, the war opponent reported. You switched vehicles seven times.

She and her eleven-year-old daughter walked across fields to the border at night. She threw away the electronic ankle bracelet that authorities ordered her to wear right at the start of her escape. The 44-year-old changed vehicles a total of seven times. The journalist did not reveal which route she took to the West. Reporters Without Borders Secretary General Christophe Deloire stressed that the escape was not organized by a secret service.

The photo of the Russian went around the world in March last year. The First Channel employee, previously considered loyal to the line, had protested in Russian state television news reports with the sign “No war!” (“No war” in German, note) in the studio. She not only caused a sensation, but also attracted the attention of the authorities. Ovzyannikova was under house arrest and on a wanted list. She was charged with “spreading false information”.

“I was in the middle of the Channel One propaganda bubble. I was ready to burst that bubble,” Ovzyannikova said in Paris on Friday. The war was a huge shock to her and she acted as she saw fit. The journalist wishes Ukrainians to regain victories over the Russian regime and their country. The international community must support the country at war together.

As reported, Ovshannikova was temporarily in Germany, where she worked for the newspaper “Die Welt”. However, she briefly returned to Russia in July to gain custody of her two children.
