It was supposed to be fun, but the trip turned deadly serious: with the buggy of a friend of the same age, two 16-year-olds had a serious traffic accident on April 23 in Prambachkirchen in Upper Austria.
The driver from Eferding apparently drove too fast. The boy lost control on a straight road and crashed into a garage wall. The two youths were trapped in the vehicle. The boys were not strapped in and were not wearing helmets. In addition, the dangerous vehicle was not approved for traffic.
Severe craniocerebral trauma
The driver, Matthias D. (16), a student from Eferding, was flown to the Linz UKH with the emergency medical helicopter “Christophorus 10”. The diagnosis was “severe craniocerebral trauma”. His friend and passenger (also 16, from Prambachkirchen) was also seriously injured, but his life was not in danger.
On Friday morning, almost exactly two months after the tragedy of the accident, the bad news came: Matthias didn’t make it. He has since died in hospital.
