British former Prime Minister Boris Johnson becomes a columnist for the Daily Mail tabloid and announced in a clip that he would write “completely uncensored stuff”. Johnson had already taken over a column for the newspaper “Telegraph” in 2018.
He would have been paid £275,000 (currently the equivalent of €322,000) a year for this. According to the rules, to be a columnist, Johnson needs the approval of the Acoba Committee. However, he did not overtake them in 2018 or this time. The Acoba chairman wanted to ask the former head of government for clarification, according to a spokesman for the body.
In the column of the newspaper “Daily Mail” he will write “completely uncensored things”, Boris Johnson announced. The accompanying clip was published on Friday (see tweet below). According to the tabloid, Johnson is considered “one of the funniest and most original writers in the business.”
The 58-year-old is expected to sharply stab sitting British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Johnson’s supporters blame him for the populist and conservative politician’s end.
resigned a week ago
Johnson resigned as MP from the House of Commons on 9 June. He had previously learned that a parliamentary committee had accused him of lying repeatedly in the “Partygate” scandal surrounding lockdown celebrations. The committee then wanted to propose that Johnson be suspended for 90 days – partly because he had sharply criticized the members of the committee.
