Critical Condition – Tawny Owl Stuck in Chimney for 10 Days

Date:

A little tawny owl had to stay in a chimney near Klagenfurt for ten days before it could finally be rescued. The residents of the house thought the desperate scratching was a dormouse.

A tawny owl was trapped in a chimney near Klagenfurt for a total of ten days and nights before it could be rescued at the last minute. “According to the chimney sweep, the owl must have been dazed by the smoke and fell into the chimney,” reports Michaela Dworak of the Carinthian Bird and Mammal Aid.

Protective grille on the fireplace
“That could have been prevented by a protective grille on the fireplace.” In addition, the residents of the house, although they heard constant scratching, thought that a dormouse could be behind it. They therefore did not warn the expert until ten days later.

“The poor tawny owl kept trying to climb up the chimney, cutting off his beak and talons. Of course he was completely weak and dehydrated. I immediately gave him an IV,” says Dworak.

The little owl was handed over to falconer Franz Schüttelkopf on Thursday during the buzzard’s release – as we reported – at Weißensee: “He is now being checked by the vet and will be further treated with infusions. We can only hope that he comes through .”

So the next patient will be cared for at the care center of the Adlerarena Burg Landskron and Michaela Dworak will certainly be on her way to an animal emergency again soon. The animal expert has several calamities almost every day and spares no effort to save even the smallest animal.
