Dramatic scenes took place Friday afternoon in the Bregenzerwald municipality of Lingenau in Vorarlberg. A postal worker was seriously injured in an accident, but things could have been worse.
The 34-year-old letter and parcel deliverer was driving on a narrow gravel road when he drove his car over the verge in a left turn. The man had the presence of mind and tried to jump from the crashing vehicle at the last second – but he got stuck in the driver’s door and was dragged some 70 meters before landing in a meadow with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Thundered 100 meters down the slope
The mailbox itself then thundered more than 100 meters down the slope and overturned several times – only a chain link fence in front of a family home brought the badly damaged vehicle to a halt. The 34-year-old was taken to Feldkirch State Hospital after initial treatment on the spot by the Red Cross.
