During the rescue operations in Turkey, the soldiers of the Austrian Armed Forces resumed the search for more victims after a short break in the operation in the morning due to the lack of security.
“The Turkish army has taken over the protection of our AFDRU contingent. The army soldiers have therefore resumed the search in the earthquake zone,” Michael Bauer tweeted on social media in the afternoon.
Chance of survivors decreases
Many people remain missing under the rubble. However, the chances of finding more survivors are decreasing every day. The helpers now store almost nothing but corpses.
Still in use until Thursday
“The expected success of saving a life is not reasonably correlated with the security risk,” Lieutenant Colonel Pierre Kugelweis said Saturday morning. Heavy equipment will still be on site until Thursday, but the situation will become increasingly sobering on Saturday, according to the army.
