The President of the Government of Navarra, María Chivite, has confirmed that between 2023 and 2027, Volkswagen will invest 1,024 million euros in the Landaben plant to build a new assembly hall for the production of electric cars and the collection and sequencing of batteries . The ship will be 11,000 square meters in size and maintain the maximum production capacity of 400,000 cars per year.
The German multinational plans to carry out the electrification adaptation works this year and produce two models of electric cars in 2026.
To achieve the objectives, the company receives the cooperation of the Province. María Chivite informed the management of Volkswagen at their recent meeting in Wolfswurg, Germany, that her director will designate the public interest project for Navarra at tomorrow’s meeting for smoother processing of permits and aid. Chivite has asked the company for a commitment to suppliers and employment.
From Landaben’s works council, they confirm that it is good news, but they want to know the details to make sure they will have enough work to guarantee the current 5,000 places.
Landaben currently produces 300,000 cars per year. For two years, the power station will operate as a mixed power station until it adapts to electrification. Electric cars will come out of the chain along with the current T-Cross, Polo and Taigo.
