A farmer has walked 1,200 kilometers across Thailand to marry a woman he has never met on Valentine’s Day. Suthep, 52, from the central Nakhon Nayok region, met 56-year-old shop assistant Thanapa online five months ago when he ordered fish paste from her, the Bangkok Post newspaper reported Tuesday. The two started chatting and flirting online until they decided to try it as a couple.
Thanapa at first jokingly asked her admirer to come to her on foot – in the very southern province of Satun. But Suthep took the matter seriously and said he would be there for Valentine’s Day and marry her, the paper said, citing the protagonists of the romantic love story.
39 kilometers on foot per day
The lovestruck Thai then trained for weeks for the grueling tour. On January 14, he finally headed south. According to the information, he walked or ran about 39 kilometers every day.
He reached his hometown of Thanapas just in time for lovers’ day. Surrounded by traditional dances, the two said yes on Tuesday. “I’m so happy, I’m speechless,” Thanapa said with a smile and thanked her newlywed husband for the show of love. “Without social networks, this day wouldn’t exist,” he happily added.
