A mother of seven children gave birth safely in Poland after an unexpected pregnancy with quintuplets. Dominika Clarke (37), who is already a mother of seven children aged between ten months and twelve years, gave birth to quintuplets in Krakow on Sunday, Polish media reported. She feels “better than expected” after the pregnancy, Clarke said.
The newborns, three girls and two boys, are named Arianna Daisy, Charles Patrick, Elizabeth May, Evangeline Rose and Henry James and weigh between 710 and 1400 grams. The babies were born by caesarean section at 29 weeks and are currently on a ventilator.
“Always expect complications”
The head of neonatology at the Krakow hospital was confident in the condition of the five premature babies. “We hope to reach the happy moment of her release,” said Ryszard Lauterbach. Obstetrician Professor Hubert Hubas said such a pregnancy is “a challenge” and you should always be prepared for potential complications.
Actually, the couple had only one more child planned. “But it turns out there are more,” say Clarke and her British husband Vince. They described the pregnancy as a “miracle”. The Clarkes already have seven children, ages 12, 10, seven and four, and a 10-month-old baby. The seven-year-olds and four-year-olds are twins.
“System and positive attitude”
“If you have a system, a calm approach and a positive attitude, then it’s possible to have a really cool life with such a large group of kids,” said the now-mom of 12. Dominika met her husband Vince Clarke (55) in UK when she worked there, he works as a software developer. Later the two moved to Poland and built a house in the woods. “I want my children to grow up in nature,” she told British newspaper Metro.
According to the hospital, the chance of giving birth to quintuplets is one in 52 million. The “chances of winning the lottery” were higher, the lucky mother said. But as a mathematician, she likes “this kind of statistics”.
