The Russian Ministry of Defense has reported the capture of a village near Kharkiv. The Ukrainian General Staff had previously announced that the village of Hrianykivka was under artillery fire. New Russian air and missile strikes led to airstrikes in several regions and temporarily knocked out power.
“The enemy uses tactical air power, especially in the airspace of the occupied territories, and launches missiles,” Andriy Yermak, head of the presidential bureau, reported in Kiev on Saturday. For security reasons, electricity was cut off in the capital and its surroundings, as well as in the industrial zone of Dnipropetrovsk and in the Black Sea region of Odessa. This has been announced by energy supplier DTEK.
Don’t ignore the air raid siren
Yermak appealed to the population not to ignore the air raid alarm. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that it had captured a village near Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine. “In the Kupyansk area, the village of Khryanykivka in the Kharkiv region was completely liberated by offensive actions by Army Group West,” Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday.
Kharkiv is the second largest city after Kiev and is located about 40 kilometers from the Russian border. In December it was reported that Russian soldiers had withdrawn from the region. At that time, the residents collected more than 1000 projectiles on one site. The debris will serve as evidence in a possible trial against Russia.
According to their own statements, the police found 920 civilian bodies after the withdrawal of the troops. Around Kharkov, 25 torture camps are said to have been found. The now taken village of Hrjanykivka is located a few kilometers east of the Oskil River, which the Russian troops originally wanted to build as a new line of defense when they retreated. Initially, the armed forces could only hold out in northern Ukraine. In the meantime, however, the Russian army has regained some of the initiative in the region and has been able to take other cities as well.
battles in the west
Further fighting was reported in the west of the country on Saturday. “An explosion was heard in Khmelnytskyi. Stay under cover,” military governor Serhiy Hamalij warned the population on his Telegram channel. Soon after, he reported a second explosion. The military governor of the Black Sea region of Mykolayiv, Vitaly Kim, showed a photo of an allegedly shot down Russian missile in his Telegram channel. Two missiles would have flown over the area to the west, he warned.
The Ukrainian armed forces said they shot down two Russian cruise missiles from ships of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. The air raid siren was lifted in most regions in the morning.
