923 euros per month – 60 applications for a new doctoral scholarship

Date:

60 medical students have applied for the new scholarship from the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK). They can withdraw 923 euros per month for a maximum of three and a half years. In return, they commit to work as panelists in a region of need for a minimum of five years.

Third-year human medicine students were admitted to almost all Austrian universities. An exception is the Sigmund Freud Private University, which recently had its accreditation withdrawn for its master’s degree. In addition, applicants must be prepared to work as a panel doctor in general practice, paediatrics, child and adolescent psychiatry, gynaecology/obstetrics or psychiatry/psychotherapeutic medicine in a region in which the ÖGK holds a position after graduation for at least five years.

50 places available
50 places are advertised as a measure against the increasing shortage of panel doctors. 30 women and 30 men have registered for this. A jury decides who actually gets a place. When making the selection, consideration will be given to, among other things, motivation to work full-time as a doctor in the above fields, community involvement (e.g. in rescue and relief organizations), and previous academic success (expensive or average grades). . Applicants are expected to be informed in March.

The scholarship is initially awarded for twelve months, but can be extended to a maximum of 42 months if studies are successful. It should primarily go to students of public universities. If the studies are unsuccessful, the training is not completed or the work is not carried out long enough, the money must be paid back.
