According to a report, Russia is launching an investigation into hundreds of Ukrainian government officials and soldiers for war crimes. “Currently, 680 people are being prosecuted,” state news agency TASS quoted Alexander Bastrykin, head of Russia’s commission of inquiry as saying.
Among the suspects were 118 people from the commanders and leaders of the Ukrainian armed forces and the defense ministry, he said.
It involves the use of weapons against the civilian population. 138 of those involved were charged in absentia. The information could not be independently verified for the time being. Ukrainian authorities were not immediately available for comment by Reuters news agency.
