At 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, the 28-year-old resident climbed the icefall in the Taschach Gorge in St. Leonhard im Pitztal. He was traveling alone. Suddenly, at a height of ten meters, the climber lost his grip on his wire rope device, after which it spun him around and fell against the icefall.
Witnesses rappel 28-year-olds
The local sustained a serious shoulder injury in the collision and was no longer able to get off independently. Climbers who were not involved witnessed the accident and rappelled the injured down. “They were also the ones who started the rescue chain,” the police said.

The 28-year-old was eventually given first aid by the mountain rescue service and then flown by emergency helicopter to Zams Hospital.
