New development in the mysterious robbery-murder case involving a missing Iraqi: a second suspect has now been arrested, the Salzburg prosecutor’s office confirms. It concerns the half-brother of the first suspect who has already been arrested. According to the investigation, the two would be responsible for a bloody crime during a car sale. The victim is still considered missing.
A murder case without a body has occupied the Salzburg criminals since the beginning of this year. Mohanad A. would have been the victim of a crime: the detectives are sure of that. Since his disappearance, an aggravated robbery resulting in death has been investigated. The first suspect, a Hungarian (25) living in Salzburg, was arrested on January 22 and is in custody. So far he has denied the allegations. A second arrest has now been made, Marcus Neher of the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office confirms: “The second suspect reported to the police station in Alpenstraße on February 14. He’s already locked up.”
He is also a Hungarian (19) and the half-brother of the first suspect. Unlike the first suspect, the 19-year-old was already known for minor offenses such as theft and bodily harm.
Alleged murder victim has been missing since the turn of the year
But still there is no trace of the victim. In mid-January, police asked the public for help in solving the case and released photos of the victim’s car, a BMW X6, and his mobile phone, an iPhone XS. The vehicle, which had already been seized by the officials, was offered for sale by Mohanad A. on Facebook on December 22: a 245 hp car for 17,000 euros.
The detectives suspect that the crime was committed during a meeting about the sale of a car. A. has since been considered missing. That is why they are also looking for his mobile phone, which could provide information about the disappearance.
Half brothers contradict each other
The two Hungarians arrested early this year “surprisingly gave up their place of residence”, a clear indication. In addition, both apparently got caught up in contradictions during their interrogations: according to Neher, the information provided by the 25-year-old contradicts the previous evidence. And the 19-year-old denies having been present at all when the money and the vehicle were handed over. He would only have inspected the BMW. Another clue pointing to a bloody act: officials found traces of blood in the trunk, in particular, which the investigation attributed to the victim. The investigations continue.
