A giant crocodile attacked a man near a river in tropical northern Australia, then killed his dog. Rangers spotted the 15-foot reptile 200 yards from the attack site and shot it dead as it represented an “unacceptable risk”.
The attack took place in Bloomfield, Queensland, on Wednesday, when 37-year-old Alister MacPheean was walking his dog “Magic Molly”.
Man beat up crocodile
According to Mac Pheean, the crocodile shot out of the brown water and bit him on the leg. He managed to free himself and then desperately tried to save his dog, who had dragged the crocodile into the river in no time. Again and again he hit the reptile until it was submerged. The injured man was taken to a hospital in Cairns with injuries.
According to Michael Joyce of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the Bloomfield River is known as a popular habitat for crocodiles. The incident should serve as a warning to other residents. According to AAP, it was the eleventh crocodile attack Down Under in two years.
“Unfortunately I learned the hard way”
MacPheean told local media: “Unfortunately I learned the hard way. Everyone has to be careful in crocodile territory.” The remains of “Magic Molly” were found in the reptile’s stomach. MacPheean owes the bitch “gratitude” She was always by his side.
