Complaints related to energy and water services increased by 89% and now represent 13% of the total, or 28 645. Telephone and telecommunications remain the sector with the most complaints.
The Basque Consumer Institute-Kontsumobide registered 28,645 complaints last year, of which 6,383 were motivated by telephone and telecommunications services, which, while remaining the sector that motivates the most consumer complaints, experienced a 20% decrease compared to 2021, while complaints related energy and water supply services had increased by 89% and now represent 13% of the total.
The Basque Minister of Tourism, Trade and Consumption, Javier Hurtado, presented this Friday in Vitoria-Gasteiz the activity report of Kontsumobide for 2022, at a press conference in which the director of the Basque Consumer Institute, Laura Alzola, also participated.
Kontsumobide experienced growth last year online processing of claims (which made up only 9% in 2019). By 2022, 50.5% of complaints will already have used the electronic process, meaning that for the first time more than half of the claims, complaints and reports submitted to this body will be registered online.
The adviser explained that claims have risen “slightly” to 28,645.
Hurtado has indicated that “the vast majority” have dealt with claims that have not ended sanction proceduressince they were not due to violations, but to “all the novelties introduced on the bills that have caused a lot of doubt among consumers.”
Last year, however, this body handled 521 disciplinary proceedings: 145 in Álava, 217 in Gipuzkoa and 159 in Bizkaia. In total, 77 files have been filed against companies belonging to the household appliances sector (including computer equipment and audiovisual material), 52 against companies in the telephone sector, 50 against companies in the car repair sector and 27 against companies in the ‘vehicle’ sector.
