Tragic accident on Saturday morning not far from the state border between Salzburg and Tyrol! A car with a Hungarian license plate collided with a bus on the B164 near Leogang. Unfortunately, help came too late for two occupants in the car. Two people were seriously injured.
The driver of the bus was seriously injured and, like the driver of the car, had to be taken to hospital. Two people in the car were dead when first responders arrived.
It was deep winter conditions on the Grießenpass, but it was still unclear why the wild crash happened around 8am. In any case, you can count yourself lucky that there were no passengers in the bus except the driver and it did not fall over.
Three helicopters, teams from Salzburg and Tyrol
When the alarm was raised, the emergency services assumed that there were several passengers on the bus. In addition to the local Leogang fire brigade and rescue workers, the Hochfilzen fire brigade and the Tyrolean emergency services were also deployed, as well as three rescue helicopters. In addition, emergency teams and a general practitioner from the area were on site.
The seriously injured bus driver was transported to the Zell am See clinic. The other injured were taken to Salzburg State Hospital.
The road between Salzburg and Tyrol will remain closed until the end of the cleanup work, probably Saturday afternoon.
