Numerous top Russian executives have died unexpectedly since the start of the war in Ukraine. Now the oligarch Vyacheslav Rovneyko was found lifeless in a villa not far from Moscow.
The 59-year-old 1990s oil magnate and suspected KGB spy was found dead in his home on Rublevka – one of the most expensive residential areas in the world. For him, all help came too late. According to the police report, there are no signs of a violent crime, Russian media write. It is the eighth death of a Russian oil industry executive since early 2022.
Rowneyko had become very wealthy in the 1990s. With the son-in-law of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin – Vladimir Putin’s predecessor – he had launched the energy giant “Urals Energy”.
Unusual deaths are piling up
Recently, several influential Russian businessmen and millionaires died in unusual ways. At the beginning of September, for example, the chairman of the board of directors of the oil company Lukoil, Rawil Maganov, died after falling from the window of a Moscow hospital.
In April, former deputy head of Gazprombank Vladislav Avayev was found dead in his Moscow apartment along with his wife and daughter. Investigators said the 51-year-old killed his family and himself. However, residents doubt this version.
