A Like on Instagram sparks massive discord in Russia’s military leadership. The son-in-law of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Alexey Stolyarov, is said to have “liked” an article by opposition journalist Yuri Dud against the war. Now the head of the notorious Wagner battle group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, wants to send him to the front for this.
A report by the journalist Yuri Dud on the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine seemed to have pleased Shoigu’s son-in-law. It said it was a “bloody and senseless war unleashed by Putin and his entourage”. However, when the media learned about this, Stolyarov did not want to hear anything more about his “Like”.
It soon disappeared again. He then explained on Instagram that he had never pressed “Like”. And on evidence from multiple outlets, all he said was, “Don’t let Photoshop fool you.”
Ukraine mission to “bow” Stolyarov.
However, the independent online portal “Poligon.media” claims to have discovered that Schoigu’s son-in-law reportedly already liked two of Dud’s contributions. Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group, considered particularly brutal, also became aware of the incident.
“We have to get Stolyarov and bring him to me. I will train him for six weeks and since I am a Z-Prolo myself, I am sure I can help him improve by sending him to the combat zone,” said the leader of the group of mercenaries.
Prigozhin’s dispute with the Ministry of Defense
In recent weeks, Prigozhin has regularly and personally criticized the Russian Defense Ministry and its leaders, including Shoigu. So he held him responsible for the huge losses in the ranks of the Wagner mercenaries. Because, according to Prigozhin, it would not have happened if the Ministry of Defense had provided the mercenaries with sufficient ammunition.
