Trial adjourned – Young dagger in the dock

Date:

In July, a teenager was so badly injured during a wild argument that he had to undergo emergency surgery. Now the alleged perpetrators were on the dock in Eisenstadt.

In July, “wild west scenes” regularly took place in Mattersburg. At a bus stop, three teens attacked several teens with pepper spray and stabbed one of them. The victim is no stranger, however: The 16-year-old became notorious a short time later when he and a Syrian beat a family man in Schattendorf shortly before Christmas, who died shortly afterwards – according to the autopsy, the beating should not have caused the death.

Fear of victims as a trigger?
Before the dispute in Mattersburg in the summer of this year, the three alleged perpetrators, but also the victim, had to answer to the regional court in Eisenstadt. Because the 16-year-old who was later stabbed would have threatened the three subsequent perpetrators. According to prosecutors, the teen said he would “stab them and their families.” They therefore planned the attack on the student in revenge.

The perpetrators are still half children themselves
Therefore, the three main suspects aged 14 to 16 (at the time of the crime) were also charged with “intentional grievous bodily harm”, while the victim was charged “only” with “dangerous threats”. The first suspect (then 15) pleaded not guilty. Although the knife was his, he had handed it over to the second defendant (14 at the time), who stabbed him, but in a closed position and unaware of his intentions.

The second defendant pleaded guilty. The third suspect (then 16) had treated the victim (the fourth suspect) and his friends with pepper spray. He also confessed to the crime. However, all three main defendants stated that they were simply afraid of the brutal four-of-four defendants and his “gang”. Without saying it explicitly, they presented the act as a “spontaneous act of self-defense”.

No verdict yet
The stabbed fourth defendant in turn denied the allegations against him. He never threatened the three other young people and, according to the Public Prosecution Service, is therefore completely innocent.

The expected verdict at 3 p.m. has not come. Because the Senate President granted the defense attorney’s request to hear other police officers as witnesses to get clarification on exactly what happened. The trial was postponed.
