A 75-year-old man was found with a bleeding head wound in the courtyard of a residential complex in Vienna’s Favoriten district on Wednesday morning. The injured man is said to have been the victim of a robbery in his apartment and was subsequently locked up. The pensioner was finally able to climb through a window into the courtyard and thus attract attention.
The act happened around 8 a.m. in the man’s home on the ground floor. The perpetrators, a trio, knocked on the door pretending to be from the police. In good faith, the 75-year-old opened the door – and was immediately knocked down. He was pinned to the floor, the perpetrators started searching the rooms before leaving the apartment with some money and valuables. They locked their victim in the building.
But soon after, one of the men returned, he had lost an identity card during the robbery of the apartment – and it probably took the victim with him: Because the stranger took out a knife and called to the pensioners to hand over the papers. The 75-year-old followed the instructions, the perpetrator disappeared and locked the door again.
Escape through window
The pensioner eventually managed to escape through a window in his apartment. After he was found in the courtyard, the emergency services were alerted. The 75-year-old was taken to hospital after first aid by the professional rescue service.
The victim suspects that the alleged perpetrators are people from Eastern Europe. However, the man could not provide more details, according to the management. Investigations are ongoing, and the extent of the damage is the subject of surveys.
