Seven vehicles collided on the A 22 near Stockerau on Thursday morning – salvaging the wrecks proved difficult. The perpetrator was able to escape for the time being.
A serious accident on the Autobahn along the banks of the Danube shows how important it is to properly secure cargo: just before 8 a.m. yesterday, a driver lost a ladder. A car following behind was unable to brake and collided head-on – a chain collision involving seven vehicles ensued. Four people were injured in the accident and had to be taken to hospital.
Huge traffic jam on the way to work
The big cleanup followed: For this, the A22 had to be completely closed in a westerly direction. The fire service took the wrecks to a gravel depot, then turned around and – to save time – drove back to the accident site against the direction of travel. Commuters from Vienna who could not leave on time had to be patient. “Nothing worked at all for almost two hours,” said a witness.
