Israeli forces shot dead a 15-year-old Palestinian in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Thursday (local time). According to the mayor of the northern West Bank town of Azzun, an Israeli military vehicle drove into the city late Thursday evening and Palestinian youths threw stones at it. The soldiers then started shooting at the students.
The city hospital issued a statement saying a high school student died after being shot in the back and two others were being treated for gunshot wounds. According to a statement from the Israeli army, the soldiers in the area had been searching for people throwing fireworks at Israeli vehicles. They shot at suspects who threw explosives. The Israeli army only confirmed that there were injuries.
Eleven Palestinians killed in a week
Violence had recently escalated in the West Bank. Following Israeli military operations, there were repeated rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, to which Israel responded with shelling. Eleven Palestinians were killed and more than 100 injured in another military strike in Nablus in the West Bank last week.
