“Not my king” – opponents of the monarchy protest Charles III.

While many Britons paid tribute to the new monarch, Charles III, at the coronation ceremony. pledged allegiance, numerous opponents of the monarchy have gathered in various cities across the United Kingdom to protest against the “institution”.

In London, hundreds of people gathered near the procession’s route and protested, chanting “Down with the crown”. Members of the Republic organization waved flags reading “Not my king.” In the morning, police arrested Republican leader Graham Smith and other activists.

Opponents of the monarchy also took to the streets in the Welsh capital Cardiff. Hundreds joined a protest march chanting “God Save the Poor” instead of the traditional “God Save the King.” A “Big Republican Lunch” in a park was later announced.

Few fans in Scotland
In the Scottish city of Glasgow, a demonstration by pro-independence supporters with thousands of participants also criticized the royal family. Protests were also called for in the capital Edinburgh. In polls, a majority of people in Scotland said they were indifferent, with nearly three-quarters saying they were not interested in the coronation.
