Frightened mother: – “A wolf howled right on my terrace”

Date:

Creepy scenes for a mother of two children in the Amstetten district: On the night of the super moon, a wolf howled on the terrace of her house. Since then the family has lived in great concern.

What sounds like something out of a bad horror movie became a bitter reality for a 28-year-old. She was in the house when she heard a wolf howling Thursday evening around 7:30 p.m. “I live in a residential area, but close to a forest. So I tilted the patio door to better locate the sound,” she says. But even though the number of wolves in the Amstetten district has increased recently, she didn’t believe she would actually see an Isegrim. “He immediately sat on the terrace,” says the mother of two children.

“Don’t let the children outside carelessly anymore”
However, the four-legged friend was probably very scared himself. Before he could be photographed, he immediately ran away. But the shock is still deep for the Mostviertler woman: “Of course I’m afraid for my children, so I don’t just let them out without thinking.”

Gerhard Fallent, chairman of the ‘Wolf.Stop’ initiative, also became aware of the case and contacted the woman. “It cannot continue like this and it should not even get to this point. How should this mother proceed? “These conditions are intolerable and unacceptable,” he further calls for the tightening of the Lower Austrian Wolf Regulation. “What if a child falls victim to the wolf,” Fallent explains.

“The wolf fits in comfortably and period”
Alexander Schnabel, spokesperson for the FPÖ Lower Austria’s agriculture and forestry organization, agrees: “The population is afraid. The wolf deserves to be hunted, and that’s the point.” Only this weekend a wolf killed fourteen sheep in Ybbsitz, also in the Amstetten district. Recently there were also sightings on the B18 in Gölsental – a deer was sent in here.

In the state of Lower Austria it is emphasized that striking wolves can be chased away and even shot without prior notice or approval. “To make this even easier in the future, the EU has also announced, at our instigation, that it will finally lower the protection status. This should make it easier to regulate the wolf population in the future,” it says.
