A preliminary report from a parliamentary committee on the ‘Partygate’ affair has weighed heavily on former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The evidence suggested it must have been “obvious” to Johnson that corona rules were being broken at Downing Street’s illegal lockdown parties, the Privileges Committee said on Friday.
The commission spoke of four cases in which the former prime minister may have lied to parliament and called him for questioning in the week of March 20. The exact date will be communicated later.
Johnson had to pay a fine
Johnson had repeatedly denied that any rules had been broken in Downing Street. He was fined for attending a lockdown event.
The conservative politician, for his part, stressed in a statement that the interim report exonerated him. It becomes clear that he has not lied to parliament. If an MP is found to have lied to the House of Commons, their mandate may be revoked.
