A 27-year-old mountaineer endured anxious hours in East Tyrol on Monday evening: After a Pole got lost while descending the Rauchkofel and was seriously injured in a fall, he made an emergency call late in the evening. A search had to be called off because of the dangerous terrain. Only in the morning could the injured be rescued by the emergency helicopter.

Use too dangerous for first responders
The mountain rescue service and the Alpine Police immediately started a search, including a drone. “The man could then be on extremely steep and impassable terrain. An attempt was made to reach him – due to the darkness, the extreme terrain and the high risk to the task force – but the attempt had to be canceled and the rescue operation was interrupted at around 2:30 am,” the executive said. .

Only recovered in the morning
The Pole had to hold out all night on the mountain. It was not until around 07:00 on Monday that he could finally be rescued with the rescue helicopter and taken to the Lienz district hospital.
